What inspired you to become a teacher?
I was inspired to become a teacher because I believe schools are places where possibilities come to life. As a child, I was endlessly curious, always asking how things worked, why they mattered, and how ideas connected. The teachers who inspired me were not those who simply gave the right answers, but those who helped me fall in love with the process of thinking. Teaching gives me the opportunity to help students discover that same spark and to guide them as they develop their identities as thinkers, creators, problem solvers, and world changers; not just learners.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
What I find most rewarding about my job is growing and learning alongside children every day. Kids see the world in unique ways, and being part of their curiosity, thinking, and discovery continually inspires me to evolve as both an educator and a person. I love knowing my work plants seeds of confidence, curiosity, and possibility that can flourish far beyond the classroom. I strive to create opportunities for students to feel empowered to learn, lead, and reach new heights.
There is nothing like the moment when a concept clicks, when the lightbulb turns on, and you see in their eyes that they understand and believe in themselves. Just as I strive to impact my students positively, I also commit to model support and positivity for colleagues. Teaching allows me to influence both students and teachers in meaningful ways, and being part of that ripple effect is incredibly rewarding.

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?
Elevating excellence in my classroom begins with strong relationships. In the gifted resource model, I have the privilege of teaching students year after year. Knowing them as humans, thinkers, and problem solvers allows me to recognize their strengths, guide growth, and help them reach beyond what they believe is possible. I help students see excellence not as perfection, but as improvement, curiosity, risk-taking, and ownership.
Our class motto is “AIM High,” and we live it daily. We discuss what aiming high looks like beyond the classroom in how we treat others, approach challenges, solve problems, and take responsibility. It means pursuing depth, originality, contribution, and personal growth. I strive to design learning experiences, not just assignments. I want students to engage in authentic inquiry, creative problem solving, multidisciplinary thinking, and opportunities to apply knowledge in meaningful ways. This approach helps them grow academically and personally, developing complex thinking, collaboration, and innovation. My goal is for students to leave my classroom more confident in who they are and more excited about the impact they can make.
