CCSD School Nurse, Volunteers Earn Statewide Honors from PTA

A Cherokee County School District school nurse and volunteers have been honored by the Georgia PTA with top statewide awards for outstanding service to students and their families!

The awards were presented at the organization’s recent statewide convention.  Congratulations to our winners and thank you for your service, thank you to the PTA for its support of our students, educators and schools, and thank you to our School Board for its longtime partnership with PTA!

Teasley MS School Nurse Angie Milko is the Georgia PTA Outstanding Nurse Award middle school winner!  She earned both the District 13 and Cherokee County Council PTA Outstanding Nurse Awards, which honor school nurses for going above and beyond, earlier this year on her path to the statewide honor.  Ms. Milko joined CCSD as a full-time school nurse in 2022 after serving as a substitute nurse for two years.

School PTA units were recognized with various awards, with four earning the state’s top honor, Outstanding Local Unit, which celebrates success in all areas.

R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy was named a Georgia PTA Outstanding Local Unit for elementary schools.  Congratulations to all PTA members and last school year’s PTA leadership team of: President Christina Kincade, Vice Presidents Mindy Davis and Christy Martin, Treasurer Gretchen Martin, Secretary Kayla Maurer, and Parliamentarian Audrey Legrand.

Mill Creek MS and Teasley MS were named Georgia PTSA Outstanding Local Units for middle schools.  Congratulations to all PTSA members and last school year’s PTSA leadership teams: for Mill Creek MS, Co-Presidents Michelle Sanchez and Gail Peel, Vice Presidents Felicia Hayes and Jennifer Henry, Treasurer Christy Page, and Secretaries Brittany Hamlin, Rebecca Isaacs and Ana Nagel; and for Teasley MS, Co-Presidents Suzanne Holloway and Jessica Ring, Vice Presidents, Amanda Nelson and Danielle Rodgers, Treasurer Aletia Martin, and Secretary Melissa Owens.

River Ridge High School was named a Georgia PTSA Outstanding Local Unit for high schools.  Congratulations to all PTSA members and last school year’s PTSA leadership team of: Co-Presidents Shannon Burdette and Ambrea Holman, Vice Presidents Shelly Boss-Barbaree and Nicole Lawrence, Treasurer Stephanie Villano, Secretary Angy Eljiche, and Parliamentarian: Scott Steinbrenner.

Ball Ground ES STEM Academy earned the state-level Hearst Family–School Partnership Award for excellence in effective communications.  The school was honored earlier this year with the District 13 PTA award. Congratulations to all members and last school year’s leadership team of: President Amber Patten, Vice Presidents Jennifer Jones and Shelley Jordy, Treasurer Sarah Thomason, and Secretary Brittany Gaydon.

Eight CCSD schools earned state-level Model PTA awards: Bascomb ES, Johnston ES, Knox ES STEM Academy, Little River ES, Mill Creek MS, R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy, River Ridge HS, and Teasley MS.  

Eleven CCSD schools earned state-level Best Idea awards: ACTIVE Academies, Arnold Mill ES, Ball Ground ES STEM Academy, Bascomb ES, Johnston ES, Liberty ES, Little River ES, Mill Creek MS, R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy, River Ridge HS, and Teasley MS.
