Celebrating School Board Member Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison!

It’s School Board Appreciation Week, and we’re so grateful for our amazing Cherokee County School Board!  A high-performing school district begins with a high-performing school board … and our board is incredibly dedicated to elevating the excellence in its governance.  Each day this week, we will share one School Board member’s thoughts on three questions.

School Board Member Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison, District 6

What do you love most about serving on our School Board?
What I love the most about serving is the opportunity to literally serve this community.  It involves countless hours of listening, reading and making difficult decisions for the future of our schools and, therefore, our community at large.  But it also involves attending many school functions, recognizing the best, handing out diplomas and getting hugs from little ones who are just happy to have someone
new come to their classroom and read.

What about our school district makes you the proudest?
What makes me so incredibly proud is the progress we have made and how bright our future is as a place where people want to raise their children.  I see teachers, administrators, students and our so incredible support staff working every day to be better at their job whether it is learning, teaching, counseling, nursing or supporting those who clean our buildings, prepare meals or drive buses.  All are critical to the overall purpose the Superintendent and Board have made to Elevating the Excellence.  I received an incredible education here, as did my children and grandchildren.  They were taught to be hard working, respectful and held accountable for responsibility of their own behavior and learning.

What about our school district’s future is most exciting to you?
The future is so bright for Cherokee County schools.  We are seeing a higher commitment than ever to give students, parents and teachers the tools they need to achieve at the highest levels.  As a lifelong member of this community, I see the goals we have reached from seeing our outstanding students serve our country whether in the military, as a first responder or a business owner, member of the arts, medical field or most importantly -- a parent.  I love seeing students who were in my classes now teaching and raising their own children and giving back in service here and around the world.
